Monday, March 14
The tour officially begins at 8AM when we will gather at the By 14 Hotel, near Ben Gurion Airport, and depart Tel Aviv. Travel to Caesarea Maritime, the ruins of the luxurious residence of Pontius Pilate, including a theater and hippodrome. See the Roman aqueducts along the Mediterranean. Continue to Mount Carmel, where Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal. Visit Megiddo (Armageddon) with its 26 layers of civilization, including Ahab’s water tunnel. Overnight in Tiberias on the beautiful Sea of Galilee.
Tuesday, March 15
Visit Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus, and churches there. Visit Peter’s Primacy, the beach where Peter encountered the risen Christ, and Capernaum, the ministry headquarters of Jesus, including the ruins of Peter’s mother-in-law’s house and the synagogue where he performed miracles. You’ll have a chance to experience a pilgrim’s baptism in the Jordan River. Overnight in Tiberias.
Wednesday, March 16
Visit new excavations at Magdal, home of Mary Magdalene and a first-century synagogue. Take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and see the Jesus boat, a first-century boat that was buried in mud for 2,000 years. Visit the Mount of Beatitudes and the mountain called Arbel. We’ll overnight again in Tiberias for a total of 3 nights in the same hotel.
Thursday, March 17
Check out of the hotel and travel south to Beit Shean, one of the most incredible archaeological excavations of recent years. Travel on to Bethlehem and explore the city, including a visit to the Church of the Nativity. Overnight in Bethlehem Thursday and Friday.
Friday, March 18
Today we’ll visit the mysterious Judean desert. Ride a cable car to King Herod’s mountaintop fortress at Masada, where Jews fleeing the destruction of Jerusalem in the first century survived for three years surrounded by the Roman Tenth Legion. We’ll also have an opportunity to float in the Dead Sea. Overnight in Bethlehem.
Saturday, March 19
Check out of the hotel and travel to Jerusalem, where we’ll see the Old City from the Mount of Olives, then walk down to the Garden of Gethsemane and the beautiful Church of All Nations. We’ll cross the Kidron Valley and enter the Old City through St. Stephens Gate where we’ll visit the pools of Bethesda and the beautiful Crusader Church of St. Anne, Ecce Homo, and the Lithostrotos. In the afternoon, we’ll visit Mount Zion, including the Upper Room, the House of Caiaphas, and Dormition Abbey. Overnight in Jerusalem, for a total of three nights.
Sunday, March 20
Today we’ll explore the Jewish Quarter and the Cardo, the heart of the Old City. Visit the famous Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Christian Quarter. Visit the Southern Stairs and the Western Wall and walk through the Rabbinic Tunnel. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Monday, March 21
In the morning, we’ll visit the Garden Tomb and take communion together. In the afternoon, there will be an optional visit to the Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, a “must see” for anyone who has not already been there. Otherwise, the afternoon is free to explore the city on your own. In the evening we will have a special farewell dinner. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Tuesday, March 22
The tour officially concludes with the farewell dinner on Monday night, and it’s time to make our way back home. We will help arrange for transfer to the airport but at your own expense. Many people choose to take an evening flight out of Tel Aviv and have free time in Jerusalem during this day. Keep in mind it’s an hour to the airport and airlines request you arrive three hours in advance of your flight. We can also help you make arrangements if you want to stay a few more days in Jerusalem--there’s so much to do!
